We’re excited for you to build with us—but clarity matters. This policy outlines what’s freely available under our Community Gaming License, and what remains protected as creative and branded content.
Whether you’re remixing mechanics, referencing lore, or publishing something new, this page helps you understand what’s fair to reuse—and where to ask permission.
What’s Licensed Under CC-BY
These elements are considered open system content and can be reused, adapted, or republished—with attribution.
Core resolution mechanics and modular rule frameworks
These are the backbone rules that drive gameplay decisions. Examples:
- Roll-and-compare systems (e.g., “roll a d20 + modifier vs target number”)
- Conflict resolution steps (initiative, turn order, result tables)
- Modular rules for exploration, inventory limits, downtime, etc.
If you publish your own adventure or supplement, you can incorporate these mechanics directly or tweak them to fit your setting.
Terminology Used for Gameplay
Functional terms that support play clarity are included. Examples:
- Action types: “Move,” “Strike,” “Cast,” “Defend”, etc.
- Conditions: “Exhausted,” “Exposed,” “Entangled”, etc.
- Advancement paths: “Guild Initiate,” “Arcane Tier 2,” “Veteran”, etc.
These terms may appear in stat blocks, turn summaries, or player choices, and you’re free to use them to preserve compatibility.
Structural Gameplay Logic Meant to Be Remixed
Frameworks that define how content is organized or extended. Examples:
- Encounter templates (e.g., threat scaling by challenge tier)
- Adventure architecture (e.g., location > encounter > reward)
- Faction progression rules or modular subsystem plug-ins
This covers tools that creators use to build original content while staying within the Mythscript ecosystem.
What Is Not Covered by CC-BY
While our game system content is open and remixable under CC-BY, Creative Commons does not release NoSRD’s original creative works. The following categories remain fully protected under copyright, trademark, or other applicable IP laws:
Copyrighted Works
These materials reflect NoSRD’s unique voice and visual identity.
- Narrative content: Named characters, historical timelines, campaign settings, and worldbuilding prose
- Storytelling frameworks: Adventure structures, dialogue sequences, and plot progression models
- Visual Assets: Logos, illustrations, icons, decorative elements, and branded page layouts
- Design Templates: Formatting systems, font treatments, and styled user interfaces
These are expressive works, not modular mechanics—and they may not be reused without written permission.
Trademarked Material
Brand elements tied to NoSRD’s publishing identity are protected.
- Product and system names: e.g. Mythscript, NoSRD, and associated titles
- Logos and slogans: Including branded phrases, emblems, and taglines
- Visual styling: Consistent look-and-feel associated with NoSRD’s products and promotions
These trademarks preserve the integrity of NoSRD-published works and must not be reproduced or repurposed for derivative projects.
What You Can Use with Permission
While expressive content like artwork, lore, and branded design is protected, NoSRD LLC makes selected assets freely available to support the creative community.
Our Community Content Packs contain pre-approved materials—including sample stat blocks, encounter frameworks, and design templates—that you’re welcome to reuse, remix, and republish under the terms of the Community Gaming License.
Check out our Community Content Packs. Just include proper attribution, and you’re good to go!
Changes
We may refine these boundaries to clarify what’s protected or remixable. When that happens, we’ll clearly note the changes.
